• Young Adults, Making a Church Home Among Us, Are Headed to Brunch

Growing numbers of young adults have been organizing their own on-going fellowship and service events since last fall. They’ve decided to try another activity– going out to brunch in the neighborhood after church. Their first such outing is scheduled for Sunday, March 27 after worship. They hope brunch can make their fellowship more open to others, especially newcomers or people who have not yet been part of their activities.

  • “What’s It Mean to Be Holy?” Sermon 02.20.11

Instead of sequestering us for protection, trying to insulate ourselves from evil, temptation and harm… In place of a sanctuary from the big, bad world, or rather than hiding in a high-walled ghetto of purported safety, instead of calling us to some literal or figurative gated community, our holiness code is faith in action. It sends us out for service. Throws us headlong into the big, mixed up world, to choose between the good and evil that are omnipresent. Rolling up our sleeves, wading right into the muck of the world, to become agents of good, instruments of peace, co-creators of the Kingdom. A way to begin really living right now. A way to make one’s own life more abundant, but also for making the whole world a more blessed place.

  • The Church School’s Lenten Heifer Project

This Lenten Season will be filled with the scent of baking muffins. Not what you would expect in Church during such a solemn season. However, our intentions are definitely not frivolous. The Church school classes will be baking and selling muffins during Lent. The proceeds will go toward the Heifer Project. Ask one of the [...]

At a city-wide clergy meeting yesterday, a visibly shaken Roman Catholic priest, leading the opening devotion, asked his interfaith colleagues for prayers for the Roman Catholic Church. His request came in the aftermath of last week’s grand jury findings: ~ the arrest of four priests and a parochial school teacher on charges of rape, and [...]
