George’s Story
For most of my adult life I considered God and church to be irrelevant. Looking back, I now see that I thought about God quite a lot, maybe with a different name.
In my slow, clumsy and sometimes cynical way, I’ve made room in my life for God. What I’ve found is that God helps me with life’s decisions, mostly by helping me understand what’s really important and what isn’t.
By thinking about God and talking about God, I wrestle with complicated and ambiguous ideas that have always been a part of the human experience. That doesn’t make a person weak, or anti-intellectual, or part of a cult.
Maybe I could wrestle with God alone, but I’ve found that church helps me benefit from others’ ideas. I am challenged by those who are thinking about God now and those who have been thinking about God for thousands of years.
