Jenn’s Story
Growing up, I didn’t enjoy church. Eyes up front, don’t fidget, stand up, kneel, sit, kneel…so much to remember! I was always afraid of messing something up and being glared at or getting in trouble. When I became a teenager and had a little more say, I stopped attending church, thinking I would never go back.
Later, I began thinking about what I believed. The God I believed in wouldn’t care if someone didn’t have a prayer memorized or if they couldn’t put money in the collection plate or if they weren’t “perfect.” It wouldn’t matter if you were divorced, young, old, LGBT or not even a Christian. God would love everyone, no exceptions.
In 2010, I decided I was ready to go back to church. But it had to be one that let me believe what I believed. I did some research, narrowed my choices down to two denominations and decided to attend services at each over the next couple of weeks before making a decision. That first weekend, I attended Old First…and never looked back. I knew immediately that this is where I belonged.
Old First shares my beliefs…and your beliefs – even if they may be different. I’ve met so many wonderful people from all backgrounds and have made many new friends. For the first time in my life, I look forward to church!
