Sunday School classes are available for all ages — pre-K through high school on Sundays from 9:45 am to 10:45 am.We gather all together at 9:45 in the Social Hall, before children are dismissed to their classrooms.
Old First uses the re:form curriculum for our older students in middle and high school. re:form is a totally new approach to youth ministry that trusts youth to wrestle with the historic Christian faith and theology, with lively activities meant to engage their minds and feed their spirits.
For our younger students, we use Spark, a faith formation program that gets children ages 2 through grade 6 excited about God’s Word. Spark lessons bring to life 150 stories from the Old and New Testament through games, art, music, and science, to accommodate all the different ways kids learn.
New students are always welcome; simply ask at the 9:45 gathering, so we can introduce your child to his or her teacher and get them off to the right classroom.
The Adult Forum meets in the Social Hall at the same time as the Sunday School. The schedule of topics changes frequently and includes Bible studies, faith discussions of current events, and developing new relationships and spiritual skills. For more information about the current topic, see the church calendar or the announcements in the order of service.
LIVING THE QUESTIONS
In January ’11, the church began a monthly study, Living the Questions, which explores what progressive Christianity offers. Rather than offering someone else’s answers, it’s about finding your own voice in the conversation about faith. The first monthly sessions will cover: An Invitation to Journey; Taking the Bible Seriously; Thinking Theologically; Stories of Creation; Lives of Jesus; Paul’s Passion for Christ; Out in our World– Challenges for Progressive Christians. Sessions will take place on every 4th Monday of the month. We will begin at 6 p.m. with dinner. The study will run from 6.45 to 8 p.m. Street parking and childcare are available. Visitors are welcome, and it’s never too late to join us.
