Over the last 6 months, I have shared several updates with you about the status of our 2016 operating budget. What started as a $28K shortfall over the summer, shrank and shrank with each update. I am going to steal some thunder from the Annual Meeting and share the good news that the shortfall disappeared (around 3pm on 31 Dec2016) and we finished 2016 with our budget ‘in the black.’
Don’t get me wrong, it was close. And yes, we did make some last minute calls asking for that one extra gift from several folks. Those last minute givers put us over. The givers who gave in February put us over. The cost discipline in the office put us over. Throwing open our doors for guests during the DNC put us over. The various ministries that found ways to do without some spending put us over. The energy savings from our new Capital Campaign-funded boiler put us over. When we have a finish like this, no one item makes the difference, everything makes a difference. It only took one rusted out piece of cooling equipment to put us in a tough place, but it took all of us to get out of it.
If you want to know more, you can come to Annual Meeting, or read the financial statements when they come out in 2 weeks.
