2020 Alternative Gift
Alternative giving is a form of gift giving in which the giver makes a donation to a charitable organization on the gift recipient’s behalf, rather than giving them an item. Each year Old First provides an Alternative Gift option for those who may be searching for a special way to acknowledge someone in their life. This year our Alternative Gift option will support Hoffman Homes for Youth, former UCC orphanage. Information about the alternative gift program will also be included in your Advent box with the candle holder- be on the lookout!
Our alternative gift donations will be purchasing items for the thirteen residents of Emmanuel Residence. This residence houses girls age 13-16 for the duration of their psychiatric residential treatment. I have created an Amazon wish list based on items the house manager provided to me. The catch with this recipient is that all gifts need to be received by Dec 2. Please start thinking about who you would like to honor and begin making your gifts ASAP.
If you prefer to make a financial donation, please make checks payable to Old First with Alternative Gift in the memo. Please include a note with the name and address of the person who you would like to receive a gift notification.
- $5 purchases a pack of gel pens for one resident
- $10 purchases a new card game for the household
- $15 purchases tie-dye craft kits for the residence
- $20 purchases a journal and pens for each resident
- $30 purchases a laminator for residents to laminate their family photos and art projects
- Other amounts will go even further to provide makeup and hygiene items for each resident.
Typically I would be setting up a table to collect and advertise our Alternative Gift program. This year it will all be online. We are also in a time crunch with regards to getting items there by the deadline to be sure all the residents have similar items before Christmas morning. You can continue to donate past Dec 2nd and items will be delivered to the residence as they come in.
