The next meeting of our book group on race and racism will be held after worship on and Jan. 13. Bring a snack from coffee hour and gather for a discussion that will last about an hour.
Sunday, Jan. 13 Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption, by Bryan Stevenson.
Stevenson’s legal practice, the Equal Justice Initiative, defends poor people, those who are wrongly condemned and trapped in the furthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of a young man sentenced to die for a murder he didn’t commit. The case drew Stevenson into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship — and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.
