A Neighborhood Christmas Tree

With the generous donation of live Christmas trees received this week, Old First will add a tree to the wreathes in front of the church. It might be our opportunity to further involve the community in our various ministries and service this Advent and Christmas season.
We’re calling the tree, the Neighborhood Christmas Tree. We think that the tree might attract additional attention to the spectrum of events that happen at Old First. Not just drawing neighborhood folks into the courtyard, but also in to our buildings or even worship too.
There is a sign is posted near the crèche asking community members to decorate the Neighborhood Christmas Tree with plastic ornaments and/or items that brighten the tree. You too can stop by any day and place an item or items on the tree.
We might even figure out how to use the tree for our 5 pm service on Christmas Eve — to collect the names and contact info. of the many guests that come to the outdoor service.
Finally, a second tree was placed in social hall for our Mens’ shelter. We’re seeking donated ornaments for that tree too. Our shelter guests would very much appreciate this generosity this Advent season. For information to donate ornaments, please contact John O., programassistant@oldfirstucc.org.
