Plans for our Intergenerational Youth Mission Trip to Nicaragua in late June/early July are firming up. But not everyone can go on that trip. In particular, Marjorie and Michael have been trying to figure out what options there might be for our younger Youth. (We run our Youth Program as one for junior and senior high age youth, and sometimes that’s an awful large age range.)
Perhaps, the UCC’s National Youth Event could be the our ticket. The Youth Event is the highest attendance event in the life of our denomination, expecting 3,000 youth and adults this summer (more than a General Synod). It is to be held at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana from Tuesday, July 10 to Friday, July 13.
Michael went to the last National Youth Event in the summer of 2008 — on a bus with high schoolers, all the way from Buffalo to Knoxville, TN. It’s a great time for young people to be together, be in a safe environment away from home, and explore their faith their own space and in ways they find appropriate.
Michael would be willing to be one of the adult chaperones, but will need more assistance. Also, the Pennsylvania Southeast Conference is looking into organizing transportation for local UCCers going. Or we could take the train. Either way, it’s a great opportunity; let Michael know if you are interested…
