Actions from the 05.16.16 Outreach SLG Meeting

Oversight for our Outreach Ministries comes from the Outreach SLG. This leadership group is responsible for day to day operation of the ministries as well as the longer view, asking how they should develop to better realize our vision of serving the Urban Poor. If you are interested in getting involved with the Outreach SLG, please speak with its leader, Steve W. (the pastor or the church office can help you get in touch with him).

At its May 16 meeting, the Outreach SLG decided on the following actions:

— reviewed and approved the new table and chair set-up procedure for the Saturday Breakfast and Cupboard;
— identified four organizations to reach out to and build relationships with by getting to know their programs and the needs they see among the urban poor;
— reviewed feedback from Saturday morning breakfast/clothing cupboard guests regarding possible ways to better address their needs;
— discussed the need for more Old First supervisors for the Saturday morning food and clothing program, and identified Old First members who might be interested in being connected with the Saturday programming;
— discussed plans to train Saturday morning supervisors and regular volunteers on strategies and techniques for de-escalating situations that could lead to interpersonal aggression;
— discussed strategies for promoting Old First’s urban service camp opportunities.

Respectfully submitted,

Steve W., Outreach SLG leader
