This year we have 2 giving opportunities that support a local connection and an international organization. One of our gifts is going to help the New Amsterdam Boys and Girls Choir in Harlem, New York to continue building their choir and taking their show on the road. The other gift is supporting the Ajyal Senior Program in Palestine and will help them care for the elders in the community.
The New Amsterdam Boys & Girls Choir was established in 1986 as the New Amsterdam Boys Choir. In 2008, it broadened its mission to serve girls. The choir’s membership comes from East Harlem’s public schools. Most members come without any musical training. Our donations will help with uniforms, meals for the choir, space rental, musical equipment, and travel expenses.
Since its start in late 2006, the Ajyal program has expanded from a group of 14 to a group of over 400, with members from Bethlehem, Beit Jala and Beit Sahour, and care recipients in 8 villages in the Bethlehem governorate. Our donations will help provide meals, medical care, religious texts, and opportunities for cultural learning.
Our alternative gifts have raised $140 for the choir and $150 for the senior program. We are still collecting through Sunday, January 8, 2023.
