In worship this Sunday, the Prayers of the People will never express all that we feel and need right now.
We are called to gather whoever wants to come after worship on Sunday to share what we are feeling, to pray, and simply to hold each other in sorrow and in faith. There seems no end to this injustice and suffering. We plead with God in the strongest terms for God’s presence and strong hand to lift up all who are beaten down and all who struggle to understand.
Tragedy is the worst reminder for the necessity of our work. At Old First we have pledged to continue this work in prayer and in the certainty that this will make us more receptive to the way God wants us to respond to events that we cannot un-see and cannot fully understand.
Sacred conversations help us help each other move past helplessness and fear. This work, done in Christian community, is soul work; and it is vitally important.
