With the cold snap, the shelter is running low on food for the freezer, which we use on nights when groups are not scheduled to come in to prepare a fresh meal. (We’ve actually had a series of groups cancel as the weather prevented them from getting to us.) That is where we are asking the congregation to step in and help out.
As part of the worship on February 9, we will have empty pans and freezer bags available for you to pick up from the Sanctuary during the offertory. The idea is that you will take them home, prepare something to fill them (each pan will include a recipe suggestion). This can be a casserole or a dessert, something that can be brought back frozen. The only restriction you have is no pork products. Be creative! The guests at the shelter would really enjoy a variety of dishes.
The food should be brought back frozen and put directly in the freezer in the kitchen. It should include the name of the dish, date it was made, and your name. We will bless the food we receive as part of our worship on the next two Sundays, February 16 and 23, where it will be brought out of the freezer and into the Sanctuary. You will also have a chance to continue to take a pan in case you missed it the first Sunday or decided you wanted to make more.
