Each year, our church has to have at least one congregational meeting in the first of the year to elect leaders, to approve the budget and any other business that can come before the congregation.
When there is a need, we can also call congregational meetings at other times in the year, as we did to call Michael or to join POWER or when we have to approve substantial, non-budgeted expenses.
In our form of church government, the congregation is ultimately responsible for determining God’s will for the decisions facing our local church.
Our Annual Meeting will take place after worship in the Social Hall. It will include the election of officers: this year we will be electing two new Elders as well as a new Stewardship Director along with other positions. The Annual Meeting will also include the consideration of a 2014 budget, and the question of whether or not Old First should initiate a Capital Campaign.
In preparation for the meeting, the proposed budget and slate of elections will be available as of Sunday, January 12.
The various reports from the officers, Standing Leadership Groups, Directors and staff will be made available as they are completed and turned in.
There will be a hearing on the Budget after worship on Sunday, January 19.
For the meal with which the Annual Meeting begins, people are being asked to bring potluck dishes to share. (Please bring food in your own serving dish; to make it easier on the clean-up crew, please take your serving dish home to wash.)
Our Annual Meeting is an open meeting, and everyone who participates in our community is invited to stay and participate. Only those who are members will have a vote.
If you have any questions, please speak to Larry Waddell, our Moderator, or the pastor, or the church office.
