Biblical Interpretation: Feb. 5 & 12 After Worship

On the next two Sundays, February 5 and 12, Jesus the Forgiving Victim program continues to explore new approaches for interpreting scripture. In our last session, the Stoning of Achan (Joshua 7), James Alison helped us distinguish between human behavior and what we sometimes attribute to God.

In next Sunday’s session, Alison explores two approaches to biblical interpretation, the Marcionite and the fundamentalist, and then introduces the idea of progressive revelation in the Hebrew scriptures.

In the following week, he discusses ancient scriptures about human sacrifice and relates them to the story about Abraham’s sacrifice of the son Isaac. We will be meeting after worship in the church school building next to the church. You may enter through the door that faces Race St. Bring a lunch.
