Advent is a season of expectation and hope, precisely what we need in an ominous time of threats, disappointment, and disorientation.
But our hope, if it is to really be home, must be firm and realistic, not wishful thinking or if-only sentiment.
The Advent study this year will focus on the roots of our hope in God’s firm promises and examine how firmly grounded hope can give us power to address the challenges that confront us day to day, particularly in these times when it can feel like the whole world is threatening to come apart.
Please join me and the others who will gather each of these four weeks, even or especially if you have never come to something outside of worship at Old First before…
(Bob is an ordained minister, now retired as the Hebrew Bible Professor at Lutheran Seminary last Spring. He served as our Summer Interim Minister while Michael was away on sabbatical. His Bible Studies are loved at Old First where people appreciate how he brings the Biblical text to a clear and helpful relevance to people’s daily lives and decisions.)
