What do you call the night before Halloween?
Well my grandmother called it “Cabbage night,” and the priest at my Catholic parish called it, “the devil’s night”. One of my favorite Halloween moments is my grandmother saying, “ Here throw this cabbage at my neighbor’s porch, I don’t like her son”. I was about nine at the time, and did what I was told that night with innocence, ignorance, and bliss.
Typically, Halloween beckons the little goblin and ghoul in us to participate in tricks and swarm the streets for free candy. God-willing homeowners know to avoid apples and raisins…the absolute worst! However, if you don’t have plans, Old First would like to invite you to join us for Cabbage Movie Night! John has offered to prepare the projector and screen and showcase a few films to enjoy in the social hall. We understand this is a last minute event, but we thought it would be nice to offer an alternative to the tricky Saturday night shenanigans.
Old First will provided a few items like drinks, popcorn, pretzels, and CANDY! If you’d like to bring your favorite dish to share, please feel free to do so. So far our suggested movie titles for the evening are:
To Kill a Mockingbird
Hotel Transylvania &
We’d like to start the evening at 5 PM and end at 10 PM. We know you have plans, so please stop by when you can and invite your friends! And we encourage you to come in costume!
For those with young children, please know that the nursery will be open til 9:30 PM.
