Catching Up on Old First’s Finances After Summer

Catching Up on Old First’s Finances After Summer

For many, September marks the beginning of a new year. Students are back in class. Football is on TV again. We are back in church.

Being back in church, gives us a chance to reflect as a congregation, on where our finances are as they, our finances, approach their year end in December.

Through August we are about nine thousand dollars behind this time last year in our regular giving. We anticipated a slight decline in regular giving as we also are giving to the Capital Campaign, but our year-to-date giving to the operating budget is still 5% below our budget.

To date, this has been largely offset by lower than budgeted expenses, but last winter was colder than we budgeted for, and our buildings are often a source of unanticipated demands for cash.

All of which is to say that we are OK financially, but perhaps a bit tighter than we might like. There are a lot of important activities going on around Old First these days, and our continued giving to their support through the operating budget is welcome and appreciated.

As always, if you have any questions about our finances, I invite you to speak to any member of the Admin SLG.

Yours in Christ,

Jonathan V.
