Michael’s Installation will be this Sunday, June 23rd, at 3:00pm at Old First. It will be a regular service, hopefully about an hour and ten minutes. He’d love to have our kids come too– Jonathan Vogan will be leading the time with the children.
Rather than having two traditional services, one in the morning and another in the afternoon, there will be two alternative options in the morning, somewhat like last year’s Church without Walls where we “substitute” another kind of “service” for our worship service. Both options will be at our normal 10:00 am service time.
Doves: Worship through crafting. There will be pieces of our usual worship — hymns, a confession, a homily — as well as making doves to remember those who have been victims of violent homicide. We create the doves of recycled materials and are hanging them in our courtyard. A great way to enjoy a morning with your fellow parishioners.
Also, please consider bringing in empty milk cartons (that we use for making the bodies of the doves. Also, if you have old jewelry that we could take apart, we need more beads and baubles (that we use for additional decoration and to add weight to the doves’ bodies so they are more stable in the wind, especially the ones for which we do not yet have the names of the people who have been killed.)
Sorting Garden Party: The donations for Cradles to Crayons is a summer partnership with Christ Church, our neighbors over on 2nd Street. (Christ Church helps out monthly during the winter months by providing a Shelter Meal)
There will be a garden party at Christ Church to sort through the donations and prepare them for Cradles to Crayons. Refreshments will be served.
This is a great way to meet our neighbors and help out a cause that is dear to our church. All donations will be distributed to children who are experiencing poverty or homelessness in our community. We will meet at Old First for prayer before we walk over to the church. Please let Billi know if you will be attending the sorting event so that she knows who to look for.
People who are going to the Sorting Garden Party are still asked to gather at Old First at 10 am, where our alternative worship will open at 10 with a prayer of our heading in two separate directions for “service.”
