Community Conversation about What to Do with The Space Freed up in the Fox Building

Community Conversation about What to Do with The Space Freed up in the Fox Building

When Michael moved into his own house, it freed up the third and fourth floors of the Fox Building. The question becomes, how can Old First use this “new space” to further its ministries.

The Elders have asked the Administrative Standing Leadership Group to shepherd the process towards a decision. The Admin. SLG asked the church to provide proposals. Two have come forward:

1. That we create a Young Adult Service Community, an intentional community for young people considering their vocations through work at Old First and our social service partners.

2. That we hire a live-in sexton to clean and help with maintenance of our buildings and property, as well as to provide security, especially as the pastor is no longer living on-site.

There will be a conversation circle at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9, where both proposals will be explained, questions answered and members of the Admin. SLG can get a sense of the congregation’s feelings about these proposals.

If there seems to be broad-based support for one or the other of the proposals, the Admin. SLG may recommend a decision to the Leaders’ Retreat that will take place on Saturday, Sept. 15. If there is not clear support after the community conversation, the Admin SLG, in consultation with the Elders, will figure out what steps to take next.

Below are the two proposals for your consideration:

#1 Young Adult Service Community

#2 Live-in Sexton
