Please come to this important meeting in the Arch Street United Methodist Church Chapel this coming Tuesday evening. Our goal is to have at least 50 people at this event to make it media worthy. We need our community and our political policy makers informed to exert leverage over the hotel developers to extract a public benefit in exchange for the public money they have accepted.
The developers of this luxury hotel near the convention center secured $15 million in tax payer funds meant to help “impoverished low income communities” because the hotel’s census tract includes Chinatown. But what will the community receive in return?
One possibility is to connect this hotel to the local hospitality training pipeline for living wage jobs with good benefits and the opportunity to unionize.
We have no legal leverage. We need the leverage of Social Justice to prevail on the developers to benefit the local community. We can only hope to do that through your presence at this Community Meeting.
The agenda for the meeting includes an overview and why this is important, hotel funding and operations, and what public benefits are possible.
When: Tuesday June 6 at 6:30 PM
Where: Arch St. UMC Chapel, 55 N. Broad St.
Free parking is available in the garage on Arch St. next to the church.
Hope to see you there,
Clark Dingman, Co-Chair, Old First POWER LOC
