The Elders, at their July meeting, decided to call a special congregational meeting for Sunday August 2nd, immediately after worship, in the sanctuary.
The meeting will be to discuss and vote on an authorization to replace the sanctuary boiler.
As we wrote in June, the boiler is many years past its service life, but through good maintenance and good fortune it has lasted until now. In the last 2 months, both our regular maintenance provider and the engineer hired by the architect have independently told us that the boiler needs to be replaced now.
Replacing the boiler will mean not having hot air for a period of time. The main Capital Campaign work will be presented, discussed, and decided later on in the Fall. It is only because of seasonal requirements — the window of time after the flurry of summer Service Camps and before the need for heat and the arrival of the Shelter — that we are going to accelerate the process for the boiler so has to have the new unit installed in September or October.
We are still getting formal estimates for the work, but expect it to cost roughly $45,000. Due to the improved efficiency of modern boilers, the engineer expects this cost to be repaid in lower utility bills over a 20 to 25 year period.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to speak to anyone on the Elders or the Administrative SLG. And we hope you will be in church on Aug. 2 and stay for the meeting.
Yours in Christ,
