On Tuesday, September 4, the fencing will arrive for the immigration protest scene we will put up in the courtyard. Earlier this month, the congregation voted in favor of displaying the Mary and Joseph and Jesus crèche figures in a fenced enclosure in the front courtyard in solidarity with immigrant communities, and to protest the zero tolerance policy currently being pushed by the federal government and immigration enforcement.
The fencing is being rented to us, free of charge, by Federal Rent a Fence. Once the figures and fencing are set up, they will remain standing for roughly two months, unless weather or other damage causes us to take it down earlier. There will also be some simple signage that explains that our faith and our tradition call us to welcome the stranger and do justice for the sojourner among us.
We will be sending out press releases once everything is in place.
