The Outreach SLG has prayerfully determined that it is safe to open the Cupboard in a modified fashion. On July 11th, we will open the Cupboard to two waves of 25 people. We have ordered masks and face shields for our volunteers and will have paper masks available for guests that come without one. All volunteers and guests will be encouraged to provide their own masks also. We are following the CDC recommendations for sanitizing the space used for the shelter and to continuously clean the space we will use to distribute to-go items on Saturdays.
As we work to reassemble the volunteer teams who were our “regulars,” we invite Old First folks to volunteer in groups of 2-3 to help distribute items. The Outreach SLG will be on site to ensure that our protective measures are observed. If there are a few people you have been looking forward to seeing, now might be a good chance. Volunteers should arrive at Old First by 8:30am to begin preparing for a 9am opening.
We are preparing dry goods to-go breakfast bags and bags of toiletries. Each bag will hopefully have a muffin or oatmeal cup, snack bar, bottle of water, and a fruit juice. We will not be able to safely provide coffee at this time. This is all dependent on donations. We utilized all of our breakfast items for the shelter while they were on the land. If you can donate any items towards the dry breakfast initiative, please mail or drop off at Old First ASAP.
