Dave Reppert, a member of Old First who has been serving the UCC congregation in Bridesburg for more than five years while he finished his M.Div. in preparation for ordination…
…Dave was ordained by the Philadelphia Association last Sunday, Nov. 2. Our own Beth Walker, as the almost finished interim Chair of the Committee on Ministry, joined Minister Susan Wargo, the Association’s Moderator, in the service of ordination. Geneva was the preacher. And Michael offered the Words of Gathering and the Invocation.
As Dave’s home congregation, Old First provided joined with the Bridesburg congregation to provide food for the reception. Old First also presented Dave with a ceramic communion set as a show of our lasting support for his ordained ministry. Thanks to all the “angels” whose gifts contributed to the cost of both the meal and the communion set.
Dave thanks us:
“Thanks to Michael and all the members of OFR so much for your support and presence on Sunday – and thank you specifically for the communion chalice and plate. I will remember you all everytime I use it. OFR was definitely in the house!”
Church, it’s one of the way we give back to the wider denomination — raising up leaders, both lay and ordained who in serving share more widely some of the blessings we know at Old First. Our next ordination will, God willing, be Haeman. But there’s always opportuntities for lay people to serve in the wider church. Consider what you have to offer and to learn, won’t you?
