De-escalation Training, Sat., 12 noon to 1:30 pm, 07.23.16

Dear Old First,

On Saturday June 23, 2016, there will be a de-escalation training taking place on site. I have invited an expert in the field of Right Response to come to Old First and teach us how to de-escalate or prevent potentially harmful or threatening situations.

What is de-escalation training?

De-escalation training is a non-violent approach to prevention and conflict resolution.

Why are we doing this at Old First you ask?

As you know, I hope, we about 80 guests breakfast each week, and during the shelter season, nightly dinners are served 3 to 4 times a week to our shelter residents. The majority of the time there are no reports of incidents. However, there are those rare occasions that arguments, grievances and potentially life-threatening events take place such as seizures.

It is because of these potential situations that we want to ensure our shelter hosts and volunteers are fully prepared and equipped with the right tools to prevent and resolve any incident.

Why might YOU be interested?

The training is a great and free service we are offering. You definitely want to come if you are a volunteer in our regular or even just occasional volunteer in our Outreach Ministries.

While you may not be a volunteer or shelter host at Old First, if you feel that the training be beneficial to you in your line of work, or if you just have an interest in it — I would love to see you there!

Again, the training is Saturday, July 23 rd from 12:00pm-1:30pm. If you are interested in participating please email me at athomas@oldfirstucc.org.

I look forward to seeing you then!

Best,

Alesha, Outreach Coordinator
