Did you know we have the POWER to make changes right here in Philadelphia?
Leaders from Old First has been working with over 35 other Protestant, Catholic and Jewish congregations from every section of Philadelphia who are committed to forming a broad-based, interfaith community organization that can transform the social and economic policies that are impacting our families and neighborhoods. We will have a congregational meeting in September to decide as a congregation if Old First will formally join this new organization.
POWER: An Interfaith Movement stands for “Philadelphians Organized to Witness Empower and Rebuild.” This exciting and growing organization is inter-faith, crosses the socio-economic, cultural, and neighborhood lines of our city, and is organizing to promote a new vision, a POWERful and faith-filled voice for change in Philadelphia!
Members of Old First have been part of the planning for POWER’s founding convention coming up on Sunday afternoon, September 25th. We need you there! P.O.W.E.R. will be introducing a bold, but practical vision for change to a broad array of city leaders. That vision will touch on five key areas that affect the lives of people in our city: jobs, school reform, housing, public safety and healthcare access.
Are you willing to sign up now– to commit to lending your support on Sept. 25… and then show up for Old First, for P.O.W.E.R. and for Philadelphia?
Soon, there will be a attendance sign-up sheet at coffee hour every Sunday. If you have questions, you may speak with Alice Reyes, Beth Walker, Margaret Rohdy, Marta Rose, Renaldo McKenzie or the pastor.
To get real notice in the political world… to change the political culture of our city… to give a voice back to the average citizen in a broad range of our row home neighborhoods, P.O.W.E.R.’s founding assembly needs to be a show of strength– thousands of people all finding their voice.
We have POWER in Philadelphia and we’re going to show it on September 25th. See you at the convention!
