The Worship SLG decided to remove the pews to the east and west of the chancel for Advent. Seasonal worship needed the extra space, and the Worship SLG thought it would be an improvement in the front of the sanctuary.
But in undertaking this change, the SLG was very clear: it was a temporary change, a trial run, if you will. The Worship SLG made a process commitment: everyone’s input would be invited as part of the decision on the permanency of such a change.
The people who have been heard from have liked the added space it gives the front of the sanctuary– both for activities and aesthetically. Some have even laughed: that they thought they were going to really dislike the change, and have surprised themselves how much they appreciated it.
The Worship SLG sponsored 3 Adult Forum discussions on that change and some other ideas they have for further down the road. There will be more details and more chance for input on those other ideas.
But this Sunday, on the agenda for their Worship SLG meeting after worship, they are including the item whether or not to make the removal of these front pews permanent. (Their agenda will not include any decisions about what to do with the pews that have been moved and are currently stored up in the balcony.)
This article and an announcement during the Community Life announcements at the beginning of worship on Sunday mean to invite anyone who wants to be part of that decision to join their meeting: in the Sanctuary after worship.
If you cannot make the meeting and want to share your input, or if you have any questions about this decision, please contact Wanda, the Leader of our Worship SLG.
