The gay men and friends had a fairly regular monthly outing for awhile — meeting up on the third Friday night of each month after the Happy Hour crowd thinned out, and, once gathered, heading out to dinner. Of course, as with all fellowship groups at Old First, it was never closed to anyone else who wanted to come along.
And it was a nice, steady opportunity to get to talk and know one another outside of church on Sunday mornings. There were some very sweet times and some great friendships formed.
But we fell out of the habit. Perhaps, mostly, because it was dependent on my handling arrangements. And I often get just too busy. If that’s true, I’m sorry.
But at a friend’s urging, I’ve decided to go to the “Our Night Out” event this coming Tuesday, Dec. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at XIX NINETEEN Restaurant, 200 South Broad Street. “Our Night Out” is a fun and casual social networking party of LGBT professionals, allies, friends and colleagues. Meet new friends and get reacquainted with old ones while learning about non-profit organizations that provide value to the local LGBT community.
I figured that since I was going, I could invite others to join me, and we might have the beginnings of a G.M.N.O. tradition again.
All of you are invited. And feel free to invite friends. (Mike W. showed up a G.M.N.O. event before he ever came to church!) And among the newer faces of people who’ve been worshiping at Old First regularly, there are a handful of gay men.
If you want, join us there. Or you can contact me, and we can figure out how to go together. Maybe some of us will grab dinner afterward?
As of Wednesday, Michael had already heard from six people who want to go. (And when Michael sent out the invites, he realized there are over 40 people who might be interested in GMNO events.)
If you have any questions or suggestions, please speak to me.
