Winter holidays can be a difficult time for a lot of people – difficult families, financial stress, traveling, painful memories. Community can be important, even if it is imperfect.
This Christmas and New Year’s, many of our guests at our Winter Shelter will struggle with these same difficulties. Some have family to visit, others do not. That is why we keep the Social Hall open all day on these holidays, allowing our guests the chance to sleep, stay inside, and enjoy some TV.
Maybe you don’t have plans for these holidays, maybe you need to surround yourself with some community, maybe you want a chance to give back. Whatever the reason, we would love to have you serve as an Old First Host during one of these days. Come down and visit for two hours, relax, watch some TV, and maybe (depending on what time you sign up for) enjoy a home-cooked meal from our own April Smith.
