Singing Circle with Men from our Shelter on Sun., 02.25 @ 6 PM for dinner or 7 PM for singing
A couple of weeks ago, Holly organized the first Singing Circle. It gathered people from Old First, people from Holly’s Healing Presence Singers and men from our shelter. The men who joined had a great time, and promised to tell others and to bring others. The second meeting of this new group will be Sunday, 02.25.
Short term, the Singing Circle will provide another opportunity for our shelter guests to interact with people from church and to from Holly’s Healing Presence singers… that all the participants might find their lives enhanced in a safe and affirming space where their voices are heard, and what they say and sing is valued and important.
The long-term vision is to expand the invitation to ANY folks who are living on the streets to join us to form a city-wide homeless choir, which will be called The Philly Street Choir, loosely designed after the Street Choirs that have been successfully created in other major cities in the U.S.
The next gathering will be on Sun., 02.25. People are invited to come at 6 PM to have dinner at the shelter and get to know some of the men better through a shared meal time…  Or people can arrive at 7 PM when it is time to go up to the Sanctuary and sing. No previous singing experience needed; all are welcome.
If after reading this, you might get a better idea what it’s like by watching the videos below.

Singing last year at Carnegie Hall, they are joined by the incredible composer, Jake Heggie, on piano, as well as a few of opera’s shining stars (Frederica von Stade sings a sweet duet with one of the altos in the choir in this clip): https://www.npr.org/2017/06/14/532959314/the-dallas-street-choir-makes-historic-carnegie-hall-debut
