How Can Old First Make the Most of the Space that had Housed Michael?

Old First is land-locked and often cramped for space. Sometimes we have to get creative about where we put all the things that can happen simultaneously within our walls.

That’s been in part because for Michael’s time with us we also offered him housing in the Fox Building. He’s now moved out into his own space and happily commutes to work. That leaves Old First with a question: how can we best use the now-empty space that has been dedicated to Michael’s living on site for the past 3 years?

The Elders asked the Admin Standing Leadership Group to shepherd a process for our congregation making that decision. First, they asked the congregation to come up with suggestions. After some prodding, they have surfaced some different possibilities. They are now asking the authors of those ideas to formalize them into written proposals which will be first shared with the congregation (via these newslinks and in paper copy for anyone who is not on-line), and then considered on Sept. 9 during the Adult Forum, using our circle process. The topic will be discussed further at the Leaders Retreat in September. Depending on how those conversations go, or more specifically whether a consensus seems to be forming out of our talking and listening to one another, a decision could be made later in September.
