How did Old First UCC become multi-racial, multi-cultural, and what is the UCC anyway?
Last week, Delilah led us in a powerful conversation naming questions most on our minds about African American history in the UCC. Many arose. What was the UCC’s role in various political movements around civil rights and racial justice? How has Black Liberation theology influenced the church? Who is Andrew Young? How did Old First get to be the kind of church it looks like today?
This week, we will start from the beginning, and from a place we know well: Old First. Delilah will overview the antecedents that formed the UCC, which explains much of the church’s early racial history, as well as its structure today. We will then hear from Nancy Donahue and Jackie Williams speak about Old First’s own, ever-continuing journey towards becoming multi-racial, multi-cultural, and committed to racial justice.
