We are partnering with our neighbor Christ Church to collect items for Cradles to Crayons (C2C). This is a nonprofit that partners with over 200 social service agencies to provide children in need with clothing and school supplies.
I toured their facility this week and talked with them about the need of those they serve. During a typical month, most items that are donated are picked up by families and social workers of children who don’t have the resources to provide the necessities.
Social workers provide C2C with a list of items a child needs. In one care package, a child will receive a weeks worth of clothing, shoes/boots, 3 pairs of underwear, 5 books and a few accessories. For babies, the packages include onesies, new baby hygiene items, bedding, socks, diapers, and toys. When a bag is complete, it looks like this:
The most needed items for our collection are items for ages 0-2yrs. Particularly unopened hygiene items (shampoo, lotion, baby powder, diaper cream), diapers, baby carriers, onesies, shoes, toys, new bottles and pacifiers.
Gently Used items for older children: pants, shirts, shoes, belts, hair accessories for girls, hats for girls and boys, books for ages 0-12
New items for ages 3-12: underwear and socks, toys (NO used toys for older children)
If you don’t have any hand-me-downs and want to help fill the shelves at Cradles to Crayons, you can purchase items from their Amazon Wishlist. The list can be found here: C2C Wishlist
