As you may know, Old First built a beautiful church at 10th and Wallace and moved there in 1882 (when we first left Old City, after building 3 buildings on this site, the final one in which we worship now). Old First called that corner home until we moved on to 50th and Locust in 1916 (before coming back to 4th and Race in 1967).
The building at 10th and Wallace still stands today. It is large and grand and home to St. Paul’s Baptist Church. We have many photographs and items of interest from that time. Check out the display case in the Narthex near the elevator this week.
You’ll see photos of Reverend Wiest, Pastor at Old First from 1898 to 1910, the Good Samaritan Sunday School Class all dressed in costume for their production of, “The New Minister,” a book from the library and several other photos and mementos our our time there. Thanks to Nancy D. for uncovering these treasures in the Archives.
