Alice took the flyer and copied the letter below on to the back, and put it in everyone’s mailbox. There’s outreach– both for the cause of improving our city, but also letting her neighbors know her church cares too…
Dear Neighbors,
My name is Alice, and I am your neighbor at 316… As a life long resident of Philadelphia, an educator and now a grandmother, I have a deep love for our city and what it can offer. I am also well aware of the challenges we face in so many areas: jobs, education and safety among others.
I often wonder what I can do to help. I vote, stay in touch with the issues and try to facilitate remedies to situations when the need arises. At times I feel helpless to do more.
This is the reason I have become involved with an organization, (P.O.W.E.R.), which has the potential to embrace the difficult issues we face and galvanize our city leaders in a way that is new.
We will have our founding meeting on Sunday, September 25th at 5:30pm. The purpose of the meeting is to create a citywide commitment to real change. This meeting will last 90 minutes. The information is on the reverse side of this flyer.
The church I belong to (Old First Reformed Church) will be taking folks from this area to this event. You do not have to be a member of any church or temple to attend or get a ride with us on our bus that will leave from the corner of 4th & Race at 4:30pm. Just let me know if you are interested in attending so I can provide you with more information, register your attendance and secure transportation for you.
I hope you’ll join us. Please call or e-mail me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Alice
