“Beautiful music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul; it is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us.” (Martin Luther)

Join the choir this Fall!

Come and share your musical gifts through lifting your voice with others in our wonderful Old First adult choir!

Singing is something we are ALL capable of doing and many people enjoy, whether they consider themselves the best shower singer in the city or they fill their lives with singing in church choirs and or community choirs.

I invite any and all people to join the choir who love to sing and feel confident they can hold their own part with as few as two people, but as many as 10!  No one ever needs to sing alone in a choir.  One also does NOT need to know how to read music, but simply be able to pick up songs fairly quickly through repetition in our rehearsals.  The role of the choir, as we sing together in community, is to strive to create beauty in the worship services as well as serve to boost the congregational singing.

We sing on the average of 3, sometimes 4 Sundays per month and one does not need to participate in EVERY scheduled worship service.

I only ask that choir members commit at the beginning of the season to the days they are able to via a special Choir Schedule form one fills out.  Regular attendance at the Thursday evening rehearsals is also incredibly important for not only learning the music well, but forming and sustaining a rich community together.

The rehearsal attendance is also flexible, but I ask that choir members attend at least one rehearsal in which we are rehearsing music for the particular Sunday for which they have committed.

The full Fall Choir Schedule is still “under construction” presently, but the first rehearsal will be on Thursday, Sept. 6th from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. The first worship service in which we will sing is that following Sunday, Sept. 9th.  Our pre-service warm-ups are usually at 10 a.m., except on major holidays such as Palm Sunday or Easter.
