Well-Earned Time Off for Julie

Well-Earned Time Off for Julie

With thanksgiving and gratitude for Julie Steiner’s music ministry among us these past fourteen years, the Worship Standing Leadership Group proposed a sabbatical for her from January 2, 2011 through September 4, 2011. (The American Guild of Organists guidelines suggest that church musicians receive three months sabbatical leave for every five years of service.)

The Administration Standing Leadership Group has worked on adjusting the budget to reflect Julie’s sabbatical and increased the hours and compensation for Tim Kuntz who will be taking on extra responsibilities during this sabbatical interim. The Elders are also in support of the time off.

In preparation, Julie has prepared much, working with the Worship Standing Leadership Team, Pastor Michael  and Tim Kuntz to ensure that the high quality of musical leadership in worship that we appreciate at Old First will continue in her absence.  We hope this break in the routine of our music minstry might allow some experimentation with different styles of music and configurations of musicians. And one week each month, our choir will also get a break (with neither rehearsal nor singing in worship). That sunday each month, we will welcome and enjoy other musical leadership.

We all wish Julie a refreshing time away from her responsibilities as our Music Director! And when we do see her in church, we promise to remember and respect that she’s “off-duty,” just a ‘regular person’ come to join us for worship.
