Lent is on the horizon and moving into view. (That can’t mean that Spring is far behind!)
Old First will try a twist on an established tradition this year. March 6, the Sunday prior to the beginning of Lent (on Ash Wednesday, March 9), we will have our Lenten Pancake Breakfast BEFORE church. It will be a Spirit Day (when the Adult Forum and Sunday School are in recess, but we still have an intergenerational activity before worship). Our activity, in Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday style (referring to the tradition of eating richer, fatty foods right before we begin the ritual fasting of the Lenten season), will be to use up all our calorie, cholesterol, and counts before we discipline ourselves to be good for the six weeks of Lent.
So whether you are a regular at church early for choir practice or Christian education each week, or if you never even realized there’s anything happening before 11, mark your calendar and get your ticket now. From 9:30 until 10:30, Lenny and Tim from the shelter will be in the kitchen, cooking up a hot, sweet and rich breakfast.
Tickets ($5 for adults; $2.50 for kids; $12 for families) will be available starting this Sunday at the Wellspring table during fellowship hour.
And keep looking towards that horizon for more news on Lent and our preparations for Easter– first off word about our Ash Wednesday service and Lenten Devotions.
