Instead of our own Lenten devotions this year, we are going to join other UCC congregations for a round-robin of worship in different churches with different preachers… (If you want to go, but are worried that you don’t know where these churches are, let Michael know: we’ll organize carpooling.)
Ash Wednesday, Feb. 22, 7 p.m. Old First will have its traditional service in the Sanctuary.
(Grace Calvary UCC will host the Philadelphia Association’s Ash Wednesday Service; Bishop Kermit Newkirk of Harold O. Davis will be the preacher.)
Wednesday, Feb. 29, 7 p.m.: Old First will host the Philadelphia Association Lenten Service. The Rev. Les Miliner, pastor of Calvary UCC, will be the preacher.
Wednesday, March 7, 7 p.m. Hope Outreach UCC (401 East Indiana) will host the Philadelphia Association Lenten Service. Michael was to preach, but a change in another pastor’s schedule, and Michael agreed to switch preaching dates with her, and therefore preach instead at Woodcrest UCC on March 21.
Wednesday, March 14, 7 p.m. Calvary UCC (2900 West Lehigh) will host the Philadelphia Association Lenten Service. The Rev. Carole Wright of Woodcrest UCC will be the preacher.
Wednesday, March 21, 7 p.m. Woodcrest UCC (8107 Thouron Ave.) will host the Philadelphia Association Lenten Service. Michael will be the preacher.
Wednesday, March 28, 7 p.m., Harold O. Davis (4500 N. 10th St.) will host the Philadelphia Association Lenten Service. The Rev. Cean James will be the preacher.
Wednesday, April 4, 7 p.m., Living Water UCC (their new address to be announced) will host the Philadelphia Association Lenten Service. The Rev. Ryan Henderson will be the preacher.
Maundy Thursday, April 5, 6 p.m.: Old First will have a Last Supper, in the Social Hall; worship over dinner.
Good Friday, April 6, Old First will have its traditional services:
12 noon to 3 p.m.— a Vigil, wherein we will read together the Passion narratives.
7 p.m. — Good Friday Service in the Sanctuary.
