Let’s Try Something Different- Alesha, Outreach Coordinator

To members of the Old First Family:

If you’re reading this, it’s either Friday evening, Saturday morning, or Sunday before worship.

Were you aware that Monday – Sunday, 7 days a week from 6:30 pm – 6:30 am, there are 30 gentlemen living in the Social Hall?

So while you are unwinding after your day, or just starting it, imagine 30 homeless men calling the Social Hall their home and the Social Hall floor their bed.

While it has become a customary tradition for members and friends of Old First to prepare and serve dinners to the guests a couple evenings per month, after speaking to them, they’re also asking for something a little bit different.

As a community, we have been fortunate enough to provide them toiletries, brand new socks and underwear, but what about groceries for the week?

Wouldn’t it be nice if each hospitality team, or a few individuals, came together and dropped off groceries each week? Or if 5 people put $20.00 together and ordered pizza one night per week in the month of January or February? How awesome would that be!?

While you don’t see me that much, I am going to spearhead this effort. I look forward to seeing you in church Sunday, February 3rd, and each 1st Sunday, to get to know you and talk to you more about Outreach. In particular, I want to talk with you about how we can better help out the gentlemen who currently call Old First their home.

Look forward to seeing you in church Sunday, February 3rd!

In the meantime, if you have any questions about our Outreach Program or how you can get involved, please feel free to reach me at athomas@oldfirstucc.org or give me a call on my cell at 610-908-9628.

Blessings,

Alesha
