A Message from the Churches of Iraq–Adult Forum, Sun., Oct 16

Given America’s prolonged, disputed, and tragic military presence in Iraq and elsewhere in the Muslim world, that we should receive “A Message from the Churches of Iraq” is almost surreal.  Adult Forum guest speaker Chuck Gosselink speaks from experience.  Chuck was born and raised in Iraq, educated in India, and served with the US Foreign Service in Syria, Yemen, and India.  His presentation, “A Message from the Churches of Iraq”, will give us an overview of the Christian churches of the Middle East, historically and today, and will focus specifically on the Protestant churches of Iraq founded by Congregational missionaries to Turkey in the 19th century and nourished by Evangelical and Reformed missionaries until 1966 when all missionaries were expelled from Iraq.

Adult Forum will meet on October 16 at 9:45 a.m. to hear this message from the churches of Iraq…a message with a perspective not present in today’s headlines.

We’ll take a break from Adult Forum on October 23 for “Church without Walls,” and resume the Middle East theme on October 30 with a four-week series based on “Living Islam,” a program aired on Krista Tippett’s NPR series, On Being.
