Midday Meeting: Time for the Cascarones (and our Anniversary!)

The Midday Meeting began 2 years ago when we asked our elders (lower case “e” to designate those senior in years, not the elected Elders of the church) if they would gather one weekday to help us empty eggs to begin the process of creating enough Cascarones to continue what has become part of Old First’s Easter tradition — breaking confetti eggs over each others’ heads as a sign of the empty tomb blessing of Resurrection.

Our elders gathered and served and had a good time in the process. They began meeting monthly… ever since.

In March, we will gather on Wednesday, the 9th. We will first, very carefully, open the ends of the eggs and dump out the contents. We will then use the egg yolks and whites to make the egg casseroles for Easter breakfast. And we will, again very carefully, wash out the empty egg shells, so they will be ready for the Middle School Youth to dye them on Saturday, March 12, as we work collectively on one more preparation for Easter.

Please join us at 1 pm with a brown bag lunch. We will get cracking on the eggs about 1:30. And if you have a friend who has a way with fragile eggs, or cooking or washing, everyone is invited!
