We’ll meet this coming Wednesday, at 1 p.m. with brown bag lunches or at 1:30 p.m. if you don’t want to join us for lunch — when we start our program.
This month, we’re going to listen to a sermon that the Rev. Barbara Brown Taylor recently preached at NYC’s Riverside Church.
But first we’ll catch up with one another. We’ll probably try the tradition known around Old First as “reconnecting with one another and with God.”
And then we’ll listen to a sermon recently preached by the Barbara Brown Taylor, certainly one of the U.S. most well-known preachers.
It will be a different experience for us. We listen to sermons together quite often, if not weekly. But usually in silence. And when they are done, we sing a hymn or say some affirmation of faith.
Rarely do we get to talk about what we just heard. Rarely do we engage with anyone besides our inner self in an open discussion about what we heard, or didn’t hear. Or didn’t understand. We may not ever really get to talk about sermons with anyone.
Please join us. The group is open to anyone who is free. It will be an interesting and different experience. And a good crowd of people.
