New Sunday School Teacher Introductions!: Old First E-pistle 11.19.21

This coming Sunday, November 21 after worship, parents and their kids will gather along with the two new Sunday School teachers to meet for the first time! There will be an introduction exercise for everyone to learn a bit about each other. Then, Michael will be taking the families out for ice cream at Franklin Fountain (something he promised the kids two Easters ago!!)

Ahead of Sunday, we asked the new teachers to share a short bio about themselves. We’re thrilled to have them join us and excited to see what they’ll bring to the Christian Education ministries of the church. You can read their introductions below:

Hi! My name is Audrey. I’m from San Francisco, and I am so excited to be joining the Old First UCC community. I am currently a student at UPenn’s Graduate School of Education, working towards my masters in education. During the week I am a student-teacher at a high school. While I spend most of my time with teenagers during the week, I love working with little kids as well. In the past I have worked as a swim instructor, a camp counselor, and a Sunday school teacher. I am so excited to meet, learn, celebrate, and grow together!

My name is Donna, one of the new Children’s Sunday School teachers. I am presently working at Women Against Abuse which is a temporary shelter for mothers and their children who are survivors of domestic violence. I am a teacher in one of the faculties for preschool age and school age children. I have been an employee for 5 years in January 2022.

I plan to continue teaching in this setting for at least another year, because I am now reaching retirement age and looking forward to this next phase of life. I love working with children, and I am blessed to work in my passion, motivating children to be life-long self- learners. I have had great rapport with families and staff and have been considered as a team player. I am punctual, honest, and dependable, willing and able to be a great value to Old First Reformed United Church of Christ.

In the past, I have volunteered as an Adult Sunday School teacher, at the Kroc’s, Salvation Army, as a prayer leader, a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, in various capacities throughout my adult life. I have a business degree, and within the last 8 years went back to school to obtain a Master’s in Elementary Education. It has been the grace of God, that has guided me through this journey in my life.

I look forward to meeting the families that make up this congregation, and being the best Children’s Sunday School teacher, the Lord has graced me to be.

Gratefully,    Donna
