For Pope Francis’ visit in September, we will need some members of our church to guide Catholic visitors as they serve meals to guests on both Saturday and Sunday. Especially if you live near the church, we need your help!
During the weekend of September 26-27th, Philadelphia will host over a million visitors for Pope Francis’ visit. At Old First, we will not be having worship on that Sunday morning because it will be so difficult to get to the church. However, over that weekend we are excited to host one hundred Catholic pilgrims from Arkansas. In addition to participating in the activities surrounding the Pope’s visit, these pilgrims will be serving breakfast as a part of our Saturday Breakfast Ministry.
Because of the massive increase in security surrounding the Ben Franklin Parkway, many people who sleep on the street in that area will need to find other places to get food. So as a part of our outreach work, we will be serving breakfast to one hundred guests (instead of the normal eighty) on both Saturday and Sunday. And, as a part of listening to Pope Francis’ call to stand in solidarity with the poor and oppressed, our Arkansas visitors will cook and serve both meals.
This is where you come in. It is a blessing to be able to host our Catholic siblings; however, they will need guidance in using our kitchen and helping our guests. If you are able to reach Old First on Saturday or Sunday morning (both starting around 7:30 in the morning and wrapping up by 11am), please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
