The New Amersterdam Boys and Girls Choir is a musical group from East Harlem, NYC. It was founded by James Backmon, the musical director at Michael’s first congregation, The Church of the Living Hope. It is no longer at Living Hope, and has grown in scope and style over the years. But James work with those young people is often life-changing, in ways well beyond their musical education.
They will be with us in worship on Sunday, May 7, providing musical leadership.
The members of the choir will be arriving Saturday, touring some of the historical sites in Philly and staying over Saturday night for their Sunday singing with us. That means we will be looking for host families to welcome the young men and women (and some of their adult chaperones) on Saturday night, May 6.
We are waiting on the exact roster of who will be traveling with them. But if you are going to be around that weekend and are willing to open up your home and host a young man or woman (or a couple of them), please let Michael or the church office know.
