Old First Participates in Restorative Response Program

Old First is answering a call for help!

The Defender Association of Philadelphia has asked the City of Philadelphia to support 500+ people who were arrested last summer and fall during the civil rights protests that followed the murders of George Floyd, and later Walter Wallace in Philadelphia. Old First will be helping with a Restorative Response Program as an alternative path to resolve these cases, based on principles of Restorative Justice that emphasize community re-engagement over criminal punishment. The success of this program will serve as a model for future cases.

Old First will provide opportunities for these individuals on August 14, 2021, which is right before their hearing in September. Successful completion of this program will result in their cases being dismissed. While here on the 14th, the volunteers will help with the Saturday Breakfast Cupboard, working in the clothing shed, and tending some to the yard (weeding, gardening, etc).

Old First’s Outreach Ministry is grateful to be involved with this Restorative Program, to continue the Ministry’s practices of community engagement, service, support, and justice advocacy.
