Old First Votes to Proceed with Plans for Redevelopment

In an unanimous vote on Sunday, April 22, the congregation votes to empower the Elders to negotiate a Joint Venture Agreement with Community Ventures as together we further investigate plans to build permanent supportive housing for formerly homeless people on our property along 4th Street. In that same vote, the congregation made funds available for the Elders to hire an attorney to offer legal counsel on this Joint Venture Agreement and other legal matters that might come up. The same resolution also created a Joint Venture Ministry Team to work with Community Ventures. Kathy S, Bob R. and Beth W. have agreed to serve. Also, a Parking / Accessibility Ministry Team was created to investigate solutions to Old First’s parking problems now and in the future. Nancy D, and Adam S. have agreed to work on solving our parking and accessibility issues, particularly as they might increase if the front and back parking lots are taken up by a new building. Nancy D., Kris F. and Adam S. have agreed to work on this problem.

The Elders are currently working on their questions and concerns vis a vis the first draft of a Joint Venture Agreement. They are also seeking appropriate legal counsel. Once they have come to an agreement with Community Ventures, and it has been reviewed by the attorney, they will present it to the congregation for approval. It is hoped that all this can be accomplished as soon as possible, and the Joint Voluntary Agreement will be signed before the summer church schedule begins.

Next, we need to get started in talking with leaders in the city and in the neighborhood about this project as we try and organize the support we will need.

Please keep this project and our church, all these efforts, the Elders and the people who are being asked to serve on the two new ministry teams in your prayers.
