As you may know, our Winter Shelter is opening on November 1st, 2017. This year we are expected to host/house 30 homeless men in the Philadelphia area. Our Social Hall will be their home for the next six months.
Nov. 01, is their first night with us and the men will be settling into their winter home, I would simply like for a group of us from Old First church community to introduce ourselves, warmly welcoming our new guests, and have a information Pizza Party. Pizza is always a fan favorite!
Nov. 03, we will host a more tradional dinner for the men of the shelter and I would like any suggestions you may have and as many Old First community members once again to come out cook and continue making the men welcome.
I’m asking also for your help with three things:
- For those interested, to hang out with the men of our shelter by preparing dinner serving and dining with these dynamic gentlemen.
- If you’re unable to prepare a meal for 30+, but would like to get involved, I would love to have you host a dinner one night. Hosts are critically important during dinner. They welcome dinner teams, engage with the men of the shelter and are able to take part in community meal!
- Donations. During the winter months, socks, underwear, undershirts, boots and toiletries are always needed.
If you’re able to give in any way, I would greatly appreciate it. Moreover the men of our shelter will appreciate your time and generosity. If you have any thoughts, questions, comments or suggestions for dinner that night, let me know by emailing me at athomas@oldfirstucc.org.
